The business ideas in Chhattisgarh are based on the incredible mineral assets of the state and its status as a highly energy surplus state in India. Chhattisgarh is one of the leading states in India for steel production with about 15% of the total steel production and the state is also rich in coal and possesses one of the largest reserves of iron ore in the country, besides having some of the largest aluminium smelters in India. In the 1950s, BSP (now known as Bhel Steel Plant, SAIL) was constructed using Soviet technology, and it had a profound impact on the industrial character of the state.<\/p>\n

Raipur now has become the biggest center for secondary steel production in the country with more than 400 units of sponge iron, steel billets and rolling mill units working together to establish a thick steel manufacturing belt. The surplus capacity of the state’s power sector is also very important and is a draw for energy-intensive manufacturing. Chhattisgarh’s Kanker, Kondagaon and Jagdalpur tribal belts are being focused on bamboo development, forest produce and tribal artisan products; developing business ideas in green manufacturing.<\/p>\n
