The Gujarat Medical Device Park at Nagalpar in the Rajkot district is now moving towards allotment of industrial plots to medical device manufacturers who are looking at a site for their next factory. GIDC’s own newspaper announcement of 20th October 2026 states that online applications will be accepted from 26th October 2026.
The park covers 336 acres and is being developed by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation for manufacturers of medical devices, equipment and allied components. Its real value is in the ability to bring the industrial land, the supporting infrastructure, and the proposed shared technical facilities all into one place.
For the entrepreneur, the immediate task is to find the right product and put together a viable manufacturing proposal. The advertised application opening date is still some way off as of 20 October. There is no closing date stated.

Gujarat Medical Device Park: What is planned?

GIDC has identified Nagalpar, Rajkot as the site of the medical device park. The development envisages industrial plots, roads, street lighting, water and power supply, gas pipelines and telecom.
The plans also include a proposed water supply capacity of 1.5 million litres per day, an incubation centre and shared testing facilities. These are all proposed provisions, and the available information does not confirm that all of the facilities are actually commissioned and in operation. V1 Single Page.cdr

Shared infrastructure can be of value if the services it provides are in fact what the factory requires. Before you go ahead and include those benefits in your project budget you should have the details of service availability, user charges, scope of testing, and expected commissioning dates.
A typical test house would have to be able to provide the tests that the proposed product requires. Their very existence wouldn’t in itself satisfy all the quality control requirements.

Which manufacturing businesses can look at the park?

The scope as advertised is medical devices, equipment, and associated components. There is no detailed product-by-product eligibility list established from the announcement.
Within this broad sector, entrepreneurs could assess the following illustrative business ideas:
  • Medical plastics used in device assemblies.
  • Disposable medical products (e.g., certain syringes or tubing-based products).
  • Surgical instruments and precision components.
  • Orthopaedic products and related manufacturing.
  • Diagnostic equipment assemblies and accessories.
These are examples for the feasibility assessment exercise, not a definitive list of products which have been approved for allotment.
The manufacturing model is just as important as the product. A business making precision components for an established equipment manufacturer is going to have a very different set of machinery, skills and sales requirements to a company making a finished product and selling it under its own brand.
Start with a particular buyer group. What do they buy? What are their technical specs? What are their order volumes? What are their payment terms? That information is going to be a far better basis on which to select capacity than picking the machine first and then going out looking for buyers.

Government Incentives and Benefits

Government support needs to be looked at at three levels: the park’s infrastructure, Gujarat’s industrial schemes and the central medical device schemes.

Gujarat state support

GIDC has identified a number of support categories under the Aatmanirbhar Gujarat scheme which could be available to investors. These would be capital and interest assistance, net SGST reimbursement, EPF reimbursement and assistance with quality certification and technology acquisition. All of these would be subject to the relevant scheme conditions rather than being automatic benefits on every plot.
The published guidance from the Gujarat Industries Commissionerate for the Aatmanirbhar Gujarat MSME scheme has an operational period of 5th October 2022 to 4th October 2027. The guidance covers capital investment subsidy, interest subsidy and reimbursement of eligible CGTMSE fees. Investors are advised to check with the department to confirm the relevant government resolution and any subsequent amendments. ic.gujarat.gov.in
The precise amount of assistance will depend on a range of factors including enterprise type, the nature of the investment, location, date of borrowing and date of implementation. A general scheme ceiling should not be presented as the amount that a Nagalpar applicant will in fact receive.
Before you go any further with your financial projections you need to get a written eligibility assessment from the Gujarat Industries Commissionerate. You also need to check your project schedule against the scheme’s investment, production and application conditions.

Central medical device support

The Union Government launched the Scheme for Strengthening the Medical Device Industry (in Nov 2024) with a total outlay of Rs 500 crore. The scheme covers components and accessories, common facilities, skills, clinical studies and industry promotion. This is a national programme outlay and not a grant available to each manufacturer. pib.gov.in
The DoP scheme page will publish operational guidance, application notices and amendments (including those issued in 2026). Applicants should always check the current window and eligibility for the relevant component prior to including any assistance in their funding plan. Department of Pharmaceuticals
The Medical Device Production Linked Incentive scheme should not be marketed as an open incentive to new park applicants. In Dec 2025 the Department stated that there were no further application rounds under consideration as the scheme closes in March 2027 and has a one year gestation period. Press Information Bureau

Medical Device Demand: What the Numbers Show

India’s med device sector serves a very broad range of customers indeed, from hospitals and diagnostic centres right through to equipment manufacturers and overseas distributors. The commercial opportunity is very much product dependent with the repeat purchase of consumables being a very different proposition to the purchase of major diagnostic equipment.
Official export figures indicate a growing international business. A March 2026 Press Information Bureau update shows medical device exports having increased from USD 2.5 billion in 2020–21 to USD 4.1 billion in 2024–25. In FY2024–25, Indian medical devices were being exported to 187 countries. These are medical device exports only and not total pharma exports. Press Information Bureau
For the domestic market the MoCF have cited a figure of around $14 billion in Nov 2024 and expect it to be $30 billion by 2030. The latter is a projection, not the actual market size. pib.gov.in
In March 2026 the DoC re-iterated the USD 30bn ambition with a focus on higher value manufacturing, research, innovation and export competitiveness. Press Information Bureau
For a single factory these national figures are of course just context. The product level work still has to establish who the customer is, what specifications they require and whether the proposed unit can in fact supply at a competitive cost.
Domestic sales, contract manufacturing and exports are all viable routes to market. They need to be looked at on their own merits as the pricing, the documentation, the distribution costs and the customer acceptance processes will all be different.

What Interested Entrepreneurs Should Do Next

Confirm the allotment terms. Go to the GIDC industrial plot application portal and get the current Nagalpar notice. Check out the plots, the prices, the payment terms, the selection procedure and the submission deadline.
Confirm product eligibility. Provide GIDC with a clear description of the proposed product and the proposed manufacturing process. Seek clarification where the project involves a number of activities or component lines.
Prepare the project report. The GIDC general application guidance requires information on products, raw materials, machinery, processes, investment and financials. The park specific requirements will determine the final format of the report. egov.gidcgujarat.org
Match the plot to the factory. Work out space for production, storage, inspection, utilities, admin and internal movement. Include expansion space where it is backed by the business plan.
Build a full cost estimate. Get machine quotes and assess the civils, utilities, testing, staffing, packaging and working capital. Keep the proposed incentives separate from the confirmed fundiCheck implementation readiness. Establish the product’s applicable approval and testing requirements, technology requirements, staffing requirements and a realistic commissioning schedule prior to committing to the investment.ment.
