Helping a leading German technology company evaluate and move forward with a strategic investment in the growing Super Absorbent Polymer industry.

Client : M/s. Lummus Novolen Technology GmbH

Lummus Novolen Technology GmbH, based in Mannheim, Germany, approached NPCS to assess a new manufacturing opportunity that could support its long-term growth strategy while aligning with its expertise in polymer technologies and industrial engineering.

The objective was to identify a manufacturing sector with strong future demand, sustainable market potential, and attractive financial returns. After a detailed evaluation of multiple opportunities, Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) manufacturing emerged as the most suitable investment option.

NPCS conducted a comprehensive techno-economic feasibility study covering market demand, competitive positioning, raw material availability, manufacturing technology, financial viability, and implementation planning. The study examined global demand trends across hygiene products, agriculture, medical applications, and industrial sectors, while also evaluating regional growth opportunities and competitive dynamics.

A detailed technical assessment was carried out to compare available production technologies and identify the most practical and scalable manufacturing process. NPCS recommended the horizontal-belt gel polymerization route based on its efficiency, proven commercial performance, and suitability for producing high-quality SAP grades.

The engagement also included extensive financial modelling, capital investment analysis, operating cost assessment, revenue forecasting, and risk evaluation. Multiple business scenarios were examined to provide a realistic understanding of project returns, sensitivity to raw material prices, and long-term profitability.

In addition, NPCS mapped key raw material supply chains, assessed regulatory requirements, reviewed environmental considerations, and developed a phased implementation roadmap covering engineering, procurement, compliance, and project execution.

Based on the findings and recommendations provided, Lummus Novolen Technology GmbH approved the investment and initiated implementation activities for the proposed manufacturing facility. The project established a clear pathway for entry into a rapidly expanding global market while minimizing technical, financial, and operational risks through informed planning and strategic decision-making.
