Description:
In polymerchemistry and materials science, resin is a "solid or highly viscoussubstance," which are typically convertible into polymers. Such viscoussubstances can be plant-derived or synthetic in origin. They are often mixturesof organic compounds. Many plants, particularly woody plants produce resin inresponse to injury. The resin acts as a bandage protecting the plant frominvading insects and pathogens.
Surface coatingis the application of decorative or protective materials in liquid or powderform to substrates. These coatings normally include general solvent typepaints, varnishes, lacquers, and water thinned paints. Surface coating involvesdifferent types of products for example paints, varnishes, resins, polyesters, pigments etc. Alkyd resin is complex oil modified polyester that serves as thefilm coating agent in some paints and clear coatings. Varnish is one of theimportant parts of surface coating industry. They are used as clear, transparent coatings or as vehicles for a wide variety of pigmented, opaquecoatings for architectural and industrial purposes.
