Ceramics are classified as inorganic and nonmetallic materials that are essential to our daily lifestyle.  Ceramic and materials engineers are the people who design the processes in which these products can be made, create new types of ceramic products, and find different uses for ceramic products in everyday life.

Ceramics are generally made by taking mixtures of clay, earthen elements, powders, and water and shaping them into desired forms.  Once the ceramic has been shaped, it is fired in a high temperature oven known as a kiln.  Often, ceramics are covered in decorative, waterproof, paint-like substances known as glazes.

Ceramic Glazed Wall Tiles

The growth of the tile industry has shown steep fluctuations. The great upsurge of developmental activities all over the country during the second and third plans created a great demand not only for roofing tiles but also for non-roofing tiles. The glazed tiles are generally used in finishing floors and walls of kitchens, bathrooms, hospitals etc. The wall tiles manufactured in India are generally glazed.

Non-Glazed Ceramic Tiles

The world ceramic is taken to cover those articles that are made from inorganic substances first shaped and then hardened by fir. The characteristics are the wall tiles with colourless or pastel shade glaze with on-glaze decoration. Decorative tiles, frequently in a number of shapes and with relief designs and in a range of sizes. The main uses are the decorative treatment of walls, both those normally tiled for utilitarian reasons and others, window sills, fire place surrounds.
