During last 35years, consumption of these products has increased manifold and industries arecoming up throughout the world due to its increasing demand. Crops receivingthe most intensive application of various pesticides were cotton forinsecticides, corn for herbicides, and fruits and vegetables for fungicides.Examination of use trends of pesticides indicates that the volume in pounds ofherbicides used on crops is increasing, whereas the quantities of insecticidesand fungicides remain stable. The increased usage of pesticides, together withknowledge of some of their adverse effects, has alerted the public to the needfor regulation. The insecticide usage is high in India because weeding is donemanually in India and tropical climate of India which leads to greaterincidences of insect infestations. Insecticides have a higher market share inIndia contrary to the global market where herbicides and fungicides have highermarket shares.
