Solid waste management has become a major environmental issuein India .The limited revenues earmarked forthe municipalities make them ill-equipped to provide forhigh costs involved in the collection, storage, treatment, and properdisposal of MSW. As a result, a substantial part ofthe MSW generated remains unattended and grows in theheaps at poorly maintained collection centres.
