PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Camphor is a waxy, flammable, white or transparent solid with a strong aromatic odor. It is found in wood of the camphor laurel, a large evergreen tree found in Asia and also of Dryobalanops aromatica. It can also be synthetically produced from oil of turpentine. It is used for its scent, as an ingredient in cooking, as an embalming fluid, for medicinal purposes, and in religious ceremonies. A major source of camphor in Asia is camphor basil.
The small-scale sector of the camphor industry is poised for a spectacular rise in its production due to easy availability of its main raw material, isobornyl acetate. There are at present three camphor manufacturing units in the small and one in the organized sector. India is considered to be the biggest market for the product as besides the agro and pharamaceutical sector India has an additional sector as religious activities; Camphor is used in aarti, hawan throughout the country. Also, camphor is used as a flavoring, mostly for sweets, in Asia. It is widely used in cooking, mainly for dessert dishes. All these factors collectively increase the demand of Camphor in the market. It is thus prove to be a profitable project for the entrepreneurs to invest.
