PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Caustic Soda is also known as Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH). It is a important industrial chemical product produced in both liquid & solid form. It is deliquescent, absorbing water vapour and carbon dioxide from the air. It is extremely corrosive & should be handled carefully. Adequate protection from body contact with solid form should be taken care of. It is soluble & remains in solution. Sodium hydroxide is probably the most widely used alkaline material in the chemical industry, as sulfuric acid is the most important acid. Purity ranges from 60% Na2O to 76% Na2O. It is highly corrosive to skin. Caustic soda is a brittle, white, translucent, fuced, crystalline solid. It is soluble in water & form hydrates containing 1,2,3,4,5 & 7 molecules of water depending on the concentration.
