PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Hydrochloric acid is a solution of hydrogen chloride in water. Most of the uses of aqueous hydrochloric acid are based on its properties as strong monoxidizing mineral acid. In many of these uses, it is a replacement for sulfuric acid. The largest single use of it is for pickling of steel. It is readily dissolves all of the various oxides present in the mill scale formed in the hot rolling process. The largest hydrochloric acid consumption is in the production of organic compounds such as vinyl chloride for PVC, MDI and TDI for polyurethane. It is a fundamental chemical and as such it is used as leather processing, household cleaning and building construction etc. Production of chemically pure hydrogen chloride is made through reaction of chlorine gas with hydrogen gas. Total world production is estimated at 20 million metric tonnes annually. Most of all hydrochloric acid is consumed on site by the producer. There is a good scope for new entrants to enter into this field.
