Rexine is also known in other words, as artificial leather cloth or coated fabrics, which is becoming increasingly popular all over the world. Present indications show that artificial leather have good export potential. Rexine is manufactured by applying a coating of PVC paste on cotton cloth. It is used in air proof and water proof packing and also for decoration. It is comparatively a new technique and has widely growing prospects.
Leather cloth in industrial applications is used for covering cushions in automobile vehicles, railway coaches, book binding etc. It is estimated that 35% of the total consumption of PVC coated leather cloth in India is for industrial uses. Indigenous demand is estimated to increase at 15% per annum. The share of export demand in total demand is estimated to be 15% in coming years.
