Waste management is a distinct practice from resource recoverywhich focuses on delaying the rate of consumption of natural resources. Themanagement of wastes treats all materials as a single class, whether solid,liquid, gaseous or radioactive substances, and tried to reduce the harmfulenvironmental impacts of each through different methods. Rapidindustrialization last few decades have led to the depletion of pollution ofprecious natural resources in India depletes and pollutes resourcescontinuously. Further the rapid industrial developments have, led to thegeneration of huge quantities of hazardous wastes, which have furtheraggravated the environmental problems in the country by depleting and pollutingnatural resources. In fact, man today is caught in the vicious circle ofincreasing wants, declining resources and increasing waste being generated bythe industries and municipalities is posing a problem of enormous dimensions. Thedomestic and industrial effluents are contributing in enhancing this problem.It might become the biggest problem if it is not dealt with immediately.Therefore, rational and sustainable utilization of natural resources and itsprotection from toxic releases is vital for sustainable socioeconomicdevelopment. Hazardous waste management is a new concept for most of the Asiancountries including India. The utilization of resources and generation of wasteis for beyond the limit that the biosphere was made to carry.
